In plain words

What is a Power Apps code app?

A code app is a web app written in code, for example React, that Microsoft hosts and runs inside Power Platform. It reads and writes Dataverse and more than 1,500 connectors, while the platform handles sign-in, data policies and admin controls.

Microsoft made code apps generally available in February 2026. For you it means a front end with no design limits, and a back end your IT team already governs.

What your IT team keeps

  • Microsoft Entra sign-in and permissions
  • Data loss prevention checks when the app starts
  • Conditional Access per app
  • Quarantine, and health metrics in the admin centre
  • A full DTAP street: development, test and acceptance environments, and production only after every sign-off, with documented releases
Honest limits, October 2026

What code apps can't do yet

  • No offline use on mobile
  • No Power Platform Git integration; we use GitHub instead
  • Inside a model-driven app only as an embedded frame, without single sign-on
  • Every user needs a Power Apps Premium licence

Questions IT teams ask

Does our data leave Dataverse?

No. Your data stays in your Dataverse environment, under your tenant's security and data policies. The only exception is when the solution design includes an AI service outside Microsoft, connected through an API. Then we send only what that task needs, encrypted in transit, and never personal data beyond what the solution design and your data agreements allow. You approve every connection like this before we build it.

Who owns the code?

You do. It lives in your repository and your environments.

How do you use AI in the build?

We build with AI-assisted engineering inside our own TTF delivery framework. Every piece of work starts as a user story on the backlog and is built on its own branch. AI helps us write code and tests quickly, but people design the solution, and we review every pull request ourselves before it is merged to main. Every change moves through our DTAP street: development, test, then acceptance with your team, and only after every sign-off do we deploy to production, with release notes. We build against test data, never your live data.

What licences do our users need?

Everyone who uses a code app needs a Power Apps Premium licence: about $20 per user per month at Microsoft's list price, less at large volumes, and euro prices vary by country. For occasional users, pay-as-you-go can be cheaper: about $10 per active user per app per month, billed through Azure only in months they open the app. Some Dynamics 365 licences already include these rights. We size this with you before the sprint starts. See Microsoft's current prices (opens in a new tab)
